Opera in 2 parts. La Traviata (The Fallen Woman) is the eighteenth of Verdi’s operas and the first one to draw on the reality of the day. The opera premiered at the Teatro La Fenice, Venice, on 6th March 1853.

September 26, Saturday, 6:30 PM Herman Lovenskjold LA SYLPHIDE

Ballet in 2 acts.  do we need to bid farewell to a part of our soul in order to achieve harmony? The duality f existence became the background for La Sylphide. The sadness that circles this ballet is not only a result of Scottish mountains and German forests, helping to create theatrical atmosphere; this sadness is born out of the feeling that our life lost lightness and harmony forever.

October 2, Friday, 6:30 PM to the music by Tchaikovsky, Bizet, Adam and Schnitke RED GISELLE

Ballet in 2 acts. Boris Eifman, eulogized as the "20th-century’s best choreographer” by the American ballet critics, staged Red Giselle especially for the Lithuanian National Opera and Ballet Theatre. One of his finest performances of all time, this ballet is best described in the title of one of its reviews: “Doomed to Success”. 

October 17, Saturday, 6:30 PM Piotr Tchaikovski THE SLEEPING BEAUTY

Ballet in 2 acts. Piotr Tchaikovsky wrote about this ballet, “The plot is so poetic and cut out for music that my composing was accompanied with tremendous delight and enthusiasm which generally determine the value of any work”.

Ballet in 2 acts. Written down by Heinrich Heine, this folk legend was to become a basis for a hauntingly beautiful romantic ballet whose epoch-making choreography and luscious music made Giselle one of the most popular ballets of all time, and its title role – one of the most sought-after roles in the ballet repertoire.

 

November 6, Friday, 6:30 PM Rodion Shchedrin ANNA KARENINA

Ballet in 2 acts after Lev Tolstoy's novel. The ballet deals solely with the main theme of Tolstoy's epic novel - the love question, Anna Karenina's existential dilemma. She is emotionally torn between her husband, the civil servant Karenin, and her love, the charming Vronsky.

 

November 7, Saturday, 6:30 PM Sergei Prokofiev ROMEO AND JULIET

Ballet in 3 acts.  A romantic story of eternal love that overcomes death, Romeo and Juliet has become a token of passionate love for many generations. The present production of Prokofiev’s ballet is now considered a visiting card of Lithuanian ballet troupe receiving numerous performances at major scenes around the globe.

November 20, Friday, 6:30 PM;  November 21, Saturday, 6:30 PM;  November 22, Sunday, 6:30 PM Georges Bizet CARMEN

Opera in 4 acts. The storyis set in Seville, Spain, c. 1830, and concerns the eponymous Carmen, a beautiful Gypsy with a fiery temper. Free with her love, she woos the corporal Don José, an inexperienced soldier. Their relationship leads to his rejection of his former love, mutiny against his superior, and joining a gang of smugglers. His jealousy when she turns from him to the bullfighter Escamillo leads him to murder Carmen.

November 27, Friday, 6:30 PM to the music by Ludwig van Beethoven and Gustav Mahler RUSSIAN HAMLET

Ballet in 2 acts.  The locale of this performance is set back to Russia of the late 18th century – to the reign of Catherine II and her son Paul I, a tsar of tragic fate whose reign lasted barely four years and who was frequently dubbed ‘Russian Hamlet’. The relationships between the queen and her son became the point of departure for this magnificent drama that reveals a complex period of Russian history.

Opera in 3 acts.  One of the most popular Verdi operas, Rigoletto has received more than ten productions in Lithuania. The tragic story of a hunchbacked court buffoon Rigoletto, who, despite humiliation and terrifying curse, makes anguished attempts to rise above his weakness. A heartrending drama of fatherly suffering, unadulterated love and power of devotion.
